We welcome the document and many of the practical and thought provoking ideas it suggests. As a Master Vision it is high on aspiration and full of perhaps challenging goals but we welcome its ambition and look forward to its implementation through various Local Plan Policies.
Bournemouth is part of a large conurbation which includes Poole and Christchurch. All three authorities will be combined in 2019. Bournemouth is the largest town, with the most successful retail, cultural and commercial centre, and is centrally placed within the conurbation. The whole conurbation, is increasingly being recognised as a major urban area. If the conurbation is a city-in-waiting then central Bournemouth is a future city centre. Some will view the existing centre as the small-scale heart of a historic resort town, while others are eager to celebrate the emergence of a shiny new metropolis.
Commissioned by Bournemouth Borough Council, and together with Bournemouth-based urban design practice Feria Urbanism, TCV18 is an opportunity for local stakeholders to consider the future shape and role of the town centre. As we said at the first of our Summer workshops, the project is a huge privilege for us but a great responsibility for those charged with shaping and delivering it.
Building the Future We Want. WE – a collective effort. WANT – our demand for progress.
