We support the development of the Broadway to enhance the area for pedestrians and to improve the attractiveness of the street scene as from our experience of other areas this will give a significant boost to the local area.
Working with and for the Broadstone Neighbourhood Forum we have helped them evolve a Plan for the village whilst designing options for the transformation of the local high street, called The Broadway. An enthusiastic group of local people identified the key issues facing the village and have commissioned us to assist them in considering how best to address these via local planning policies.
Providing affordable family housing, small-scale downsizing dwellings, resisting more care homes and creating acceptable development sites in suburbia are just some of the concerns relating to housing. Other topics include conserving and maintaining green spaces, protecting valuable community assets, revitalising local shopping, supporting employment space and service companies, etc.
The Broadway is a popular district centre within Poole but has had little investment in the public realm for decades. The tired environment ensures it fails to make the most of its potential to act as the hub of community, social and commercial activity. We produced a series of options for the space each of which sought to improve the pedestrian experience whilst allowing through traffic to continue to use the street. Consultation in Summer 2015 including a public meeting ensured a healthy response from local people when asked to comment.
The final Plan and Proposals should be agreed in the first half of 2016.
