The concept behind the project is driven by the two distinct character areas of the site defined by the original villa at the front and contemporary classroom block at the rear. Observing a close hierarchy between the striking existing old building and the open and attractive nature of the suburban site provides a strong narrative to our design work.

We were commissioned by Sherborne House School and GEMS education to develop concept designs for the regeneration of the school campus, exploring how the existing campus can be enhanced and refreshed to provide improved teaching facilities. Our work tested a number of assumptions for the future development of the school. We took a masterplan approach to ensure the site assets developed along a coherent manner and had a broad base to meet the schools needs both in the short and long term.

The proposals are to develop a new six classroom block replacing the original buildings, and to develop a new multi-use dining hall. The design concept is driven by the two distinct character areas on the site defined by the original villa at the front and contemporary classroom block at the rear. Observing a close hierarchy between the striking existing building and the open and attractive nature of the suburban site provides a strong narrative to our design. Early design concepts in sketch form drew out the architectural language for the two distinct character areas within the campus.
