Having decided to develop the site themselves the clients appointed us to produce a market-ready housing scheme in a contemporary style. Developed as part of the planned northward expansion of Littlehampton, we prepared a reserved matters submission following an outline permission granted in 2011. The brief required a coherent and appealing master plan, a family of house types and sizes, a small apartment building, and a comprehensive public realm design including two garden squares.
The proposal involves 73 houses and 12 apartments with 14 units being classed as ‘affordable’. All the houses have a traditional relationship to a street or public space as well as a secure private garden. The apartments have balconies overlooking the smaller of the two public green spaces. All the units aim to meet Arun District Council’s internal and external space standards while the architecture combines traditional forms and brick facades with modern windows, doors, porches and bays.
