Our aim is to develop a significant and successful, state of the art facility, which will employ many local staff and be responsible for training some of the best pilots in the industry for many of the leading airlines. We aim to develop a facility that is modern, environmentally friendly and tastefully designed.
Boyle+Summers were appointed by Skyborne Airline Academy to develop designs for the development of their new training and accommodation facility at Gloucestershire Airport. Our involvement required developing a strategic masterplan for the south east business campus at the airport to illustrate how new business could be located at the airport in a manner which reflected the Joint Core Strategy for the area. The project developed into detailed design proposals for the new training building and student accommodation building.
An existing hangar building was converted into the new Skyborne training building which required major refurbishment of structure and services to create a new high tech training facility. The training facility required a bespoke layout to suit the new aircraft simulators and training rooms.
The project also includes new student accommodation building close to the training building within the airport business area. The proposal has been carefully considered and will provide dedicated high quality student pilot accommodation as part of a new start up business at Gloucestershire Airport.
The two linked projects are of a good quality representing a sustainable design that will contribute to the long term growth and success of the airport. The design rationale for the project has been generated from a contextual study and includes proper consideration of the constraints and opportunities to create a bespoke scheme tailored to the site and user requirements. The distinctive appearance of the proposal is both attractive and appropriate to the residential market.
